Bansko
Bansko is a town of 12000 people nested among greenery in the shadow of ice-capped Mount Vihren, the highest peak in Pirin Mountains. In recent years Bansko has shrewdly been promoted as a winter ski resort. There are some 15 km of ski runs ideally suited to skiers of all levels. Town’s attractions are not limited to skiing only. The atmosphere is mellow, yet invigorating: unlike many other Bulgarian towns, Bansko’s largely modernized center co-exists easily with its older quarters, a maze of cobbled lanes where the timber framed stone houses hide behind walls with stout double doors, as if built for siege. |
