Rila Mountains
Rila Mountains are the highest mountain range on the Balkan Peninsula. It is situated in the southwest of Bulgaria in the very center of the peninsula. Its highest peak Moussala reaches 2925 m above sea level. The snow cover, up to 2 m thick, remains until the end of May. The rocky heart of the mountains is composed mainly of granite. The multitude of cirques, glacial valleys, Alpine peaks and glacial lakes are the greatest wealth of the mountains contributing to its unearthly beauty. |
