Rhodopa Mountains
Rhodopa Mountains are situated in the center of the Balkan Peninsula. Occupying most of Southern Bulgaria, they are actually the largest mountains in the country – 400 km long and 100 km wide. The average altitude is 785 m and the highest peak is Mount Golyam Perelik (2191 m). Although the mountains are not very high, they offer beautiful scenery. Nature has endowed this mountainous land with a particularly healthy climate and over a hundred beauty spots – reserves, natural phenomena, picturesque sites. The mountains are also rich in mineral springs. Famous ski resorts are situated here – Pamporovo, Chepelare, as well as spa centers – Velingrad, Devin, etc. |
