Sozopol
Sozopol – the ancient town of Apollo – is situated in the southern part of the Bulgarian seacoast, 35 km to the south of Bourgas, the region’s largest town. The history of the town goes back to the second millennium BC. The local museum has rich display of Thracian, Greek and Roman artefacts. The Old Quarter of Sozopol features winding cobbled streets lined by wooden houses dating back from 18-19 centuries and representing the traditional Renaissance architecture. The town offers the relaxing atmosphere of a quiet fishing town, which makes it a favourite holiday place. It is much loved by artists and painters. Annually the arts festival Apollonia, named after Apollo, the god of music and poetry and town’s patron also - is held here. Accommodation in private houses and hotels is offered both in the Old Quarter and the modern part of Sozopol. |
