Arbanassi
The museum-village of Arbanassi is situated on a high plateau rising above Veliko Turnovo - the Mediaeval capital of Bulgaria. The eventful history of the village has affected the 18-19 century houses – constructed to be fortresses, surrounded by high stone walls, protected by iron grids, possessing hiding places. The cozy and welcoming interior dramatically contrasts to the austere exterior. There are numerous churches and monasteries in the surroundings of the village. The 17 century “Birth of Christ” Church is a genuine art gallery featuring over 3000 figures and scenes. |
