Varna is one of the oldest settlement on the Black Sea coast. The area has been inhabited since the remotest past. Graves, full of gold objects were excavated nearby the town. They belong to a civilization which existed 6000 years ago. Thracians were replaced by the Greeks in 6 century BC, Romans took the control of town in 1 century BC. Largely disputed between Byzantines and Bulgarians, the town was finally captured by the invading Turks in the 14 century to be liberated in late 18 century.

Major highlights include the Archaeological Museum containing the oldest worked by man gold in the world, the city’s cathedral, the Roman Baths, the Ethnographic Museum, the Maritime Garden with Aquarium, Dolphinarium, Maritime Museum.
